The North Carolina NAACP demanded changes from N.C. State University on Wednesday, one week after threats were found on campus against President-Elect Barack Obama.
NAACP President Rev. William Barber and other organization leaders met behind closed doors Wednesday morning with N.C. State Chancellor James Oblinger.
The college said the four students were responsible for painting threats to Obama on the school's Free Expression Tunnel on campus.
The students have been identified but their names were not released.
The U.S. Secret Service and Wake County District Attorney's Office investigated, but determined there were no immediate threats and the writing was on a place that encourages free speech.
"We don't have free speech for making race-based threats of death," said NAACP Attorney Alan McSurely.
McSurely called the incident a crime and questioned why the students weren't criminally charged.
The NAACP is demanding the school expel the students and require all freshmen students to take diversity training.
Following the meeting, Oblinger did not answer questions but said the meeting was "very positive."
"I think both sides have a good understanding from each other's perspective and we agreed to move forward," he added.
The NAACP equated the threats to terrorism, and said they were fearful the students responsible posed an actual threat to the campus.
"How do I not know they're the same students that sit beside me in class?" asked student Megan Wallace.
"Being expelled is a little harsh because this is a free expression tunnel, so you're obviously free to express whatever you want," said student Sam Allen.
The NAACP said it gave the university two days to come up with solutions to address their concerns.

Who hates who? LOOKS TO ME U ARE JUDGING ME BY THE COLOR OF MY SKIN AND DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT COLOR I AM. I tried to explain my respect for my country and all mankind. Lady T wanted to call my family jerks that were in the military, well I would never stoop as low as that. He or She whatever Lady T MAY BE NEEDS TO KNOW HE OR SHE MAY BE A DISABLED VET BUT MY FATHER GAVE HIS LIFE FOR THIS COUNTRY AND I STILL LOVE MY COUNTRY AND RESPECT EVERY PERSON NO MATTER WHAT SEX OR COLOR, THAT IS WILLING TO FIGHT FOR IT. I WILL NEVER CONDONE ANYONE DAMNING MY COUNTRY SUCH AS REV. WRIGHT AND IT TAKES A SICK PERSON TO DO THAT. ANYONE IN HIS RIGHT MIND WOULD AGREE ON THAT. Sorry to think about it but war does require violence, but it would be nice to keep it out of our country if we could, but it appears that some of u guys want war here among us. The civil war is over, put it behind us and move on. Don't try to overcome just live among each other and call this our country and don't get all bent out of shape bc a handful of people do something they admitted was stupid, bc they aren't the first and will not be the last. IF A BLACK BOY SHOOTS ANOTHER BLACK BOY IS THAT A HATE CRIME BC I DON'T THINK HE WOULD SHOOT HIM IF HE DID NOT HATE HIM. IF A WHITE BOY SHOOTS A WHITE BOY THAT IS HATE TOO. SO WE NEED TO STOP CALLING EVERYTHING HATE CRIMES. Crimes are committed bc people use poor judgement or are just plain mean and they should be treated accordly no matter what color.
By Dennis Cast on 11/21 08:25 PM
I have read what the graffitti said.It is a threat and a hate crime. It goes beyond free speech. Also the pushing at a high school and shouting Obama,Qbama! is also a hate crime that Mr Obama wouldn't approve of.Violence towards anyone shouldn't be condoned.

I Have not attack ur opinion or anyone elses if u were smart enough to stop defending urself u would see that. I see and most would see that there are different feelings here. U used the word bow out while I was actually thinking that u were trying to make me bow down to ur thinking well I never refrain from my opinion unless I am proven wrong and then I will. We as Americans are giving Obama his chance to prove what kind of President he is going to be so until he has done that why go balistic over this. You choose to take things way too personal, so that makes u a very unhappy Christian. I am a peaceful person and thankful of my heritage and the ones u choose to defend are not.
By Lady T on 11/21 06:57 PM
If the wrong president was elected because of the decision made by the Supreme Court in Roe vs. Wade, which by the way was in 1973, then every president elected after that decision was improperly elected. Pat, I've noticed that you make personal attacks on different individuals that have commented on this site. You did it with Imani and actually you have just done it with me. I have no earthly reason to lie about serving my country. I am a disabled veteran who served 13 years in the military with the majority of my time served overseas. Unfortunately, the military serves jerks also. Now, before I lose my cool and lower my standards to debating with someone who appears to be ignorant yet wanting to hide behind the guises of being a Christian, I will just bow out of this conversation with you. And, by the way if you read over my comments carefully, you will see that I never judged the people who wrote the graffiti in the tunnel. So, I will close with, "May God keep you and bless you...May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace." No response is necessary.

You do not know if Obama personally would agree to an abortion in his personal life or not. He is just merely upholding the right of a woman to choose. ???? He is representing all us when he gets in office not himself only. If this is what he is upholding for young girls to go out and do, bc all are not women making that choice, then we went out and elected the wrong President. I have no idea what his thinking is and u don't either, but I ONLY GO BY WHAT HE SAYS TO GET ELECTED. I have said nothing above referring to condemning anyone to hell. I said his pastor condemned AMERICA,when he said g.. d.... America. If u truly are a veteran of the US and this does not bother u then u do not have a purpose for fighting for our country and I'm saying u did and that I have high respect for u and every other man and woman that did and will in the future. I have a Dad that fought in 2 wars and a brother that fought in one. I also have another brother that served but did not go to war so I have plenty of love for our COUNTRY and our military.( People believing like him are doing sick acts against America.) I was referring to Rev. Wright. So I was saying he is not like me and the only one I have to answer to on my choices is God, BUT HE IS A MAN OF GOD by choice, teaching others and he has a lot more to answer to than I do, bc preaching is not my profession. If ur pastor tells u something wrong u do not have to uphold him in it, true, but u don't have to follow him either and say he is a respectful man. I have not judged anyone, just expressed my opinion just like u and I am smart enough to know as a CHRISTIAN that the only true judge is God. I am praying for all of America instead of condemning like Rev. Wright did. Jesus as( his )Lord and Saviour. God bless. He is all of ours Lord and Saviour and just bc someone speaks his name in high places does not make it so. I said we need to see actions. So once again getting back to the real topic here u are really appreciating freedom of speech and I am too as well as the boys in the tunnel so if u are not happy with what they said pray for them and leave their judgement up to our Lord and Savior.
By Lady T on 11/21 01:04 PM
Obama is pro-choice. There is a difference in believing in abortions and the right for a woman to choose. Roe vs. Wade was the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the right of a woman to decide what is right for her. Just as this country upholds the right for freedom of speech whether what is stated is agreed upon or not. I am a disabled veteran and I served this country that upholds the rights of its citizens. So, let's not pick and choose when we will defend those rights. You are on this site to defend the statements written on the wall of expression; whether you agreed with the statements or not. Well, same thing should apply to what Rev. Wright had to say. And, yes they are both Christians like you. You do not know if Obama personally would agree to an abortion in his personal life or not. He is just merely upholding the right of a woman to choose. Stop being so judgmental. It is not becoming of a Christian. Believe me when I say that I am saying this in love. I'm sure that you have made mistakes in your life because everyone has. Does that mean that everyone should be condemned to hell? Jesus came so that we may have life. Instead of condemning Rev. Wright, pray for him. Instead of stating that Obama is not a Christian like yourself, pray for him because he does proclaim Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. God bless.
By Pat on 11/21 12:24 PM
Lady T..........Yes I did have negative comments about Obama's pastor bc any Christian is not going to have the feelings that man had and even Obama himself said he was a disgrace and claims he does not have the same feelings and I pray he doesn't bc if he does when it comes to Chritianity he is a fraud too. YOU might not worry about removing a splinter from your eye when I have a log in mine but you may have to see a baby removed from the womb that God created bc of Obama's beliefs with his pro-life ideas. He is not a Chritian just like myself. A Chritian does not call himself one by mear name but needs to show actions. Anyone damning the country we live in does not even deserve to walk on the grounds of it bc that is a wide scope of condemnation he chose in his speech(the pastor)and u as well as I was condemned so u can follow his beliefs if u want but I think he needs to go home wherever he wants it to be and stay out of the public eye bc he is a dangerous man. People believing like him are doing sick acts against America.
By Lady T on 11/21 11:50 AM
Pat, are you the same person who posted a negative comment about Obama's pastor? If so, then you are appearing to be hypocritical because you judged that man and he is a Christian. Obama is also a Christian just like yourself yet you expressed some fear about him leading our country. Please do not remove the splinter from my eye when you have a log in yours

We might be called right wing Christians bc we are right.

imani zaire ...........you sound like an idiot and you are trying to put the south down. Well let me inform you that I KNOW PLENTY OF PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH THAT FEEL THE SAME AS I DO. That may very well be that whites hold the records of legal guns but thats sure not counting whats illegally out there on the streets. YOU GUYS ARE SO HAPPY ABOUT OBAMA THEN GET UP OFF YOUR BUTS AND LET HIM BE AN EXAMPLE, HE SEEMS TO BE PLENTY WEALTHY AND I DON'T THINK HE GOT THAT WAY BY WHINING ABOUT WHITES HAVING IT ALL. IF U WOULD TRY READING WHITE HISTORY U MAY FIND OUT THAT THERE WERE PLENTY WHITE SHARECROPPERS IN THE SOUTH AND THEY ENDURED JUST AS MUCH STRESS AS YOUR ANCESTORS. BUT ARE WE WHINING ABOUT THAT, NO. The President-elect proved if u guys would get out and vote and prepare yourselves to be elected for office there would be more of u in office. It is not the white mans fault u are not in there, that is so stupid. I am neither scared of u or ashamed of Myself for anything bc I have never harmed any color. You guys are saying that writing in the tunnel made you so afraid but yet you are saying we are afraid of u as a race, well that tells it all. I THINK LOVING ANY STRANGER OUT THERE AS THEIR OWN MOTHER WOULD BE SAYING RIGHT THERE THAT U WANT US TO PUT U NEXT TO GODLINESS BC GOD DEFINATELY COMES FIRST IN MY LIFE AND MY MOTHER WOULD RUN A PRETTY CLOSE SECOND. Judging Palin for being a Christian really makes you sound stupid bc for one you may be condemning yourself and another you are being prejudice towards a religion so u might need to speak for yourself instead of any certain race, bc I know plenty of African Americans that would be greatly offended by judging a Christian and that happens to be the religion the laws of our country is based on, sorry if that offends u, but it is fact.( In God We Trust) That God is Jesus Christ Our Lord...He can be yours to if you ask him.

Why is it okay for hate to be tolorated under free speech? Why is it okay for an ignorant person to pull Al Sharpton out anytime a african in america speaks of injustice aginst whites as if Al speaks for all africans in america. Why is it okay for most white folks from the south to still act like they are still in the 1880's when it comes to dealing with african's in america. I'll tell you why! its because most white folks are still afraid of africans in america and are ashamed of what their forefathers did to people of color in this country. Look white folks you got all the guns(85% of all legal gun owners in america are white) you got all the money 80% of all the wealth is still held by whites and lastly whites still control 90% of all government take a look at your local government offices across the nation. Hmmmmmmmmm very interesting that most whites still with all the benifts in this society we live in still want to complain act a fool in being violent and lastly behave ignorant on this matter need to ask for forgiveness and become humbled and reach out and touch somebody of color and say we can work it out and how do i began to love you as i would love my own mother.... Also something else to think about..it was so unfair to promote and use Palin for she knew nothing about nothing and you all made her famous for 15 minutes and that was shameful and mean spirited because you all would of gotton us into another mess in this country because of her very bigoited views and her right wing christian thoughts.

Ok here we go again. The NAACP is making something thats minor to be a monster. Ok what those kids did was extremely bigoted. However there is a possiblity they were just being stupid drunks and not thinking. Expulsion is extreme we all make mistakes and say things we should not. Did these boys get expelled because they were white and make a threat against a person of color. I'm saying yes. Racism is wrong in any form but to treat a tactical error in judgement on the parts of the students as a crime is a bit excessive.

The only thing I have to say about the writing is that it sould not been wroten i think that they were asking 4 sum1 to see that and now that people see that there is a problem .i wish and maybe others that wish we could have peace we are all the same just take the color of our skin . i know it is a place were you can say wat u won't but sum things sould be kept between ur friends so i am going 2 leave with note love peace an hairgrese

If McCain would have won I hoped to God that my people would have acted in a more civilized manner and not stooped so low. HERE IS THE PROBLEM THIS PERSON STATED IT. NO ONE OWNS ANY PEOPLE HERE ON THIS BEAUTIFUL PLANET BUT GOD. IT KEEPS BEING SAID MY PEOPLE AND YOUR PEOPLE, WE ARE ALL GOD'S PEOPLE. If we want a better understanding of each other and better America then we need to pray, ask God, not the NAACP OR EVEN the president of any color bc the real answers lies with HIM and I do not believe or rather know HE will not judge bc of race. This is my final statement and if anyone disregards that then they just want to argue and never have an answer.
By Bob on 11/16 05:17 AM
I just read all the above comments. Black or white, we spoke our mind last week.To the blacks who feel that now they are going to rule this country, get over it this country does not owe you anything and neither does the white population. What you make of your life is what you put into it, not what you want Handed to you!. If you feel that you are owed something and that now because we have elected a non white to our highest office, wake up and go get a job, or move back to what ever country you came from.White America does not owe you anything. The past is in the past, it is over with. You want things better for yourself, then get off your butts and get a job and get off Welfare and such and make something of yourself. Obama did and so have others. As for Sharpton and the so called ACLU and other such groups. Shut up and stop destroying this country. White or black our any other race, we are all Americans and should be proud of that and stand behind our country and it's leaders. Right or wrong there is no better place to live. There is no need for racisum in this country we should all be working together. I am proud to be an American, yes I am white, I also have many black, asian and american indian friends and past co workers. We alll get along and enjoy being together. yes race came up every so often. We all laughed at it. we did not care and we do not expect better for one race or the other. Just we all got out of it what we each put in and that was love and understanding for each other. So all you hot heads, take a cold shower and grow up
By Alan on 11/16 04:01 AM
The nation as a whole got duped and farmed. Obama and snake oil salesman words coming out of his mouth don't match his past associations with Father Pfleger, Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers the terrorist not to mention Michelle Obamas college paper. He must be laughing at us everynight he goes to bed. What fools we are. This man, our president is going to raise your taxes and socialize our nation. Another welfare nation that coddles welfare mothers and rewards them without any kind accountability. To the point on hand. If white people say anything offensive all those at the NAACP who continue to carry around that slavery cross on their backs raise bloody heck. Black folks like sharpton and those of his ilk have said much worse and not an eyebrow was lifted. Double standard all the way. Affirmitative action; racist and continues to be. This presidency will be the most polarizing and devisive in the history of our nation. I foresee an attempt on the presidents life. How sad for us.......

How many hundreds of thousands of young black men have pointedly turned up their radios either when in the presence of cops while playing “**** the Police” or when in the presence of whites while playing “Kill Whitey”? If the NAACP were not hypocrites, then they likewise would be calling for the arrest of these ‘criminals.’ (Similarly, if liberals were not hypocrites, then they’d be condemning one another for having spent the last eight years engaging in ‘hate speech’ and threats against W.) This is exactly right. Lets not be hypocrites. I have spent the last 8 years dreaming that Airforce One "have a little crash" -- except that then you would get something worse from the VP. I will have to change. Telling people I meet that "republicans make me dream of ethnic cleansing" is probably not that constructive any more. Feelings run very very deep.

Tamara Russaw.. save the bull****!! "Your" people are stooping that low anyways. As a jewish women married to a black man for 25 yrs with seven children. And in a prodominately black neighborhhod. There is a sense of arrogance. Which to a point I can understand. However, there are a lot of racial text messages about whites from blacks that are making their rounds. At my children's high school there was an incident with four black children pushing around a white child and chanting Obama, Obama!! My only point is that BOTH races have foolish people doing foolish things. And some on both sides might be potentially dangerous. But lets just call it what it is for real OK??
By Tamara Russaw on 11/15 11:31 PM
Yes, we do have freedom of speech, but does that mean just because of someones different race, religion, nationality,or creed that they should be the discussion of your narrow minded way of thinking? If McCain would have won I hoped to God that my people would have acted in a more civilized manner and not stooped so low.
By Art on 11/15 10:21 PM
Did the NAACP check the whole "Freedom Of Expression" tunnel to find out if there were any anti-Bush, anti-McCain or anti-white statements? I guess the First Amendment only counts when you agree with what is being said or written.
By Tom on 11/15 10:14 PM
For the race problem to go away, the NAACP is the problem. Why is there an organization for black people? Can anybody answer that? They don't want to be called colored but that's what the NAACP means. What would happen of whites had an organizatin called NAAWP? They would raise holy hell that's what would happen. The NAACP are the biggest racists on the planet. How about the show on T.V. called Black Outlook? What would happen if there was a show called White Outlook? They pull the race card when a cop pulls them over saying they only got stopped because they're black. Whites don't say "you only pulled me over cause I'm white". The blacks voted for Obama because he's black not because he was the best choice. The whites voted for Obama because he isn't a Republican. Talk about racism, the whole election was about race.
By Pat on 11/15 09:52 PM
A change does not mean to change our means of expressing ourselves. Nope we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN AMERICAN AND CRUEL AS IT MAY SOMETIMES BE WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR OUR RIGHTS. Every candidate we have had in the past has made some horrible threats and accussations toward the other candidate. Just read up on the facts of the first chosen cabinet member Obama has chosen, Rahm Emanuel, now while in public office he made some of these so-called death threats and nothing was done because it was not considered racial. BUT, I will bet with this firey temper of his we will be in for a treat, LIKE SENDING A DEAD FISH TO ANOTHER CABINET MEMBER, HOW CRUEL AND STUPID. Just try taking freedom of speech away so people can not fire back with thier mouth and then they will be acting out with physical threats and we do not need that. Obama will soon be our top advisor and if these little college guys bother him let him say so.
By greg on 11/15 09:18 PM
You're all missing the larger point, "The NAACP is demanding...........all freshmen students to take diversity training". There is a reason we have a 1st Admendment. You may not like what some people say, but do you really want an organization, any organization telling you which speech is exceptable and which is not? Look back in history, this is how many dictators and fascists states got started.

Endlessly the liars call out for a 'national dialogue on race.' What they really want is a national MONOLOGUE, where they and theirs lecture and I and mine zip it and listen--and where dissenting opinions are criminalized. No thanks, McSurely, you ****ing Hate Monger. 'The NAACP is demanding the school expel the students and require all freshmen students to take diversity training.' My understanding is that only ONE student wrote the N-word, but the NAACP would have the other three students expelled, the entire university community sent to brainwashing class, and the taxpayers soaked with the bill. Way to teach Whitey to love your skanky *****, hommes, cause if one of us is guilty then we ALL must be guilty.

How can the NAACP expect any views supporting those they hold high when they line themselves up with Al Sharpton and others of his mentality. For the race problem to go away why dont these people police their own. When a white person speaks thru his butt the arms are waving and the yelling starts. Why then when a person of color speaks from the smae place is it accepted as whatever. Why dosent the NAACP step on Shartons toes and tell him and those like him to take the classes they demand of the white folk. Why must their always be the kind of do as I say not as I do mentality with these people what a joke. I was shopping the other day and this hispanic woman desided to save her spot in line by leaving a cart near the line to cash out, she then resumed shopping. After waiting like 5 min I said the hell with it and moved it aside. That was when all hell broke lose. She comes running over and yelling that the white people had taking her spot in line, yea whatever. Screaming about how if she had done that to the white folk all the drama would start. How the white folk would be yelling up a storm how the white folk would be carrying on. It was actually quite comical as she was the only one yelling. When I apologized to the cashier I was told "dont worry thats how she is,shes in here quite often yelling about the white folk". Yes I'm white and damn proud of it, the cashier was black and offended by the woman screaming, hmmmn how is that. Then she yelled it "thats why I voted for the black man, I voted for the black man to take care of all you white folk, now youll see how it be". I ask of those reading this what the hell was she talking about. I wish Obama was there, just to see him say something to the ignorance of this woman. I wonder what the NAACP thinks of this kind of behavior from those they represent. Sharpton would have said we were wrong in kmoving that cart and been marching strong. That we being white shouldve waited however long it took for this woman because she is of color. No I say you see I voted for Obama myself, shouldve told the woman just to shut her up but instead I chose to let her show the world or atleast the store we were in her true ignorance. Would the NAACP have put this person and her verbal filth in place or would it have been ignored as so much is when said by a non white person.
By Pat on 11/13 11:49 AM
This is such a stupid waste of taxpayers time. If it was real threats involved other than expressions of stupidity it would be different. I am sure behind the scenes the NAACP has made negative comments about race that weren't carried out. Its time to move on unless there were real threats. If this is what Obama's election is going to be about there has been a big mistake in electing him and there is no way he can help us if our country chooses this nonsense over race.
By connie on 11/12 11:51 PM
Never underestimate the stupidity of a drunken frat boy. Which is what I'd expect did such a thing. Make the perps meet with the NAACP folks behind closed doors, for a little education.
