Town Staff and Aldermen leave this evening to go to Atlanta to check out mixed-use development and Town Halls.

With the town looking to build a new town hall/police department in the next 3 to 5-years and renovate the downtown area, this trip is designed to give them ideas to build the most useful developments for the community.

The trip takes them to seven town halls and six mixed-use developments over a two day trip.

The towns are all located just outside of Atlanta, Ga.

Garner Town Manger Hardin Watkins said the group can learn from those towns, borrow ideas from them and talk with elected officials and town staff who have been through the process of creating these facilities already.

"The reason we're going to Atlanta is there's seven communities within close proximity, an easy drive, where in two days you can see seven towns that have done these types of projects start to finish," he said.

The group left at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday and returns Friday night.
