Roads will be wide open in Apex as police begin enforcing a right-of-way rule that went into effect Monday.
The ordinance prohibits sports equipment such as basketball and hockey nets, skateboard ramps or any other objects to be placed in or near the road. Even items on the curb may still be in the Town of Apex "right-of-way" and must be moved back.
Sgt. Wayne English said these obstructions are safety hazards for those playing in the road and cars driving through the neighborhood.
"We're not trying to ruin everybody's fun. We're just looking for the safety of our kids. Our town leaf trucks and garbage trucks can't get through," English said.
Residents have about a week to take their equipment off the road before receiving a warning. If they then do not comply with the rule, the town will remove their equipment within the month. Authorities say they will work with residents to keep every safe and happy.
