RALEIGH, N.C. -
A Virginia Sheriff's Deputy was killed late Thursday night after his car struck a tree in Raleigh.
Authorities with the State Highway Patrol said the accident happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. on I-40 at mile marker 301.
The State Highway Patrol said that 40-year-old Andrew Lewis Gabriel of Manassas, Virginia was traveling westbound on I-40 when he left the roadway and struck a tree. Gabriel was a Sheriff's Deputy in Virginia.
Officials believe speed played a factor in the accident, but it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
