Call it U-Verse. It's a new way to record and watch TV.
AT & T officials said U-verse, their new video connection, will offer more than just a variety of channels.
"What we are introducing is the just the beginning of U-verse can do," said General Manager of AT&T Home Solutions Bob Sellman. "Our goal is to bring about convergence where any device can access any of the content you're connected too."
Bob Sellman with AT&T said U-verse is unique because it is Internet-based, bringing home televisions and computers together through a wireless connection with basic services ranging from $45 to $100.
For example, with this technology you can download pictures from your computer to view on your TV. Sellman said that just one of the many features.
"We have the best DVR in the industry. Not only does our DVR serve the every television in the home, but it will also record four streams of programming at a time," Sellman said.
But what does their powerhouse competitor Time Warner Cable have to say about the new service in town?
"AT&T is now getting into video and it's new to them. So the advantage Time Warner has is that we've been in the community for 30 years," said Andi Curtis with Time Warner Cable.
And although the U-verse is just being launched in the Triangle, AT&T will surpass more than one million customers nationwide within the week.
Time Warner says they have technology available that will keep customers using their product.
"We're the home of free HD adding channels all the time. We also have something called price lock guarantee where customers know they will get the same price blocked for two years," Curtis said.
Sellman says they are now offering U-verse to only part of Raleigh and the surrounding areas, and they don't have a time frame as to when they will expand their services.
