Those business owners who work from home now have a new place to set up shop in Apex.

"It gives people the opportunity to work with other professionals and get out of the house," said Entrepreneur John Ramsey.

This style of working is called co-working. Heather O'Sullivan Canney, who is running the office on Salem Street, said it's a way for people to get out and network.

"If they don't have the need or the financial means to rent and entire office space this gives them the option to work some place other than their dinning room and be around other people to grow their business," Canney said.

Canney is calling her work space SOCO Studio, charging anywhere from $20 a day to about $175 a month. They offer wireless Internet, printers and a work space. Entrepreneur John Ramsey has been trying out the co-working space since the beginning of December.

"It worked out great. Over the holidays when my family was home doing holiday things it gave me the chance to get out and work in a professional environment," Ramsey said.

Canney said the space can also be used from other purposes like informational seminars and luncheons. But she also says those people looking for a job can also use the facilities.

"Certainly being laid off is daunting, and there is a grieving process, and you add to that being home by yourself. It could be depressing so in our space people can become a member for a week or a day," Canney said.

In addition, Canney hopes to hold resume writing classes and seminars in the facility. But she says the best part about the space is that it's a professional environment without the corporate feel.

Canney will hold a grand opening this Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
