The N.C. Department of Transportation is temporarily closing the on-ramp from I-440 (Outer Beltline)/U.S. 1 (Exit 1B) onto I-40 West for the installation of a new drainage system. The closure will begin this morning and remain in place for about four weeks.

Motorists are advised to take Wade Avenue (Exit 4B) to I-40 West as an alternate route, and message signs will be in place to direct traffic. A signed detour will also be in place for motorists who are past the Wade Avenue exit to take Exit 1A and proceed around the cloverleaf onto I-40 West.
