GARNER, N.C. -
Construction on a Wake County Elementary school marked a milestone Thursday.
A topping out celebration was held at Smith Elementary in Garner.
The final steel beam was put in place at lunchtime.
The renovation and expansion project will cost about $22 million.
Students, faculty and staff are excited to get back home.
"I think this new facility is really a state of the art facility and it's just going to match the already state of the art instruction that's going on in our campus," said Chris Lassiter, Smith Elementary Principal.
The construction is on schedule to be completed in July and within budget.
