Raleigh City Council recently voted unanimously to rezone 3.44 acres along both sides of Stanhope Avenue near Rosemary Street.
The zoning of the land was changed from Industrial-2 to Residential-10 and Residential-Business. The change was sought so the zoning can be compatible with surrounding property in the area.
Petitioners also asked for the rezoning to preserve the residential character of the neighborhood near North Carolina State University. Most of the Stanhope neighborhood is single-family detached zoning. Industrial-2 does not allow for housing.
The rezoning is not tied to the Stanhope Student Housing Center and parking garage planned to be constructed on Stanhope Avenue and Concord Street between Friendly Drive and Rosemary Street.
