Governor Bev Perdue asked for a nice chunk of change from our congressional delegation on Wednesday.
She traveled to Washington with a list of $18 billion in stimulus project proposals.
Most of the money would go towards transportation projects such as highways, rail projects and airports.
Perdue said that the state is not looking for a handout, but rather, would jumpstart the economy and put people back to work.
The list of “shovel-ready” projects means the state government can get the project out to bid within 120 days of the stimulus bill passing.
“It's a list, not-prioritized, not spread out by region. But on this list is a ream of projects ready to start once I employ workers in 60 days," said Perdue.
The list includes millions of dollars to modernize rural hospitals, renovate public schools or foot the bill for green technology.
The governor also met with the president-elect's government affairs team to make sure these state projects meet the federal criteria: timely, targeted, and temporary.
But first, lawmakers must draft the bill and pass it by the end of February.
