Unemployment Continues Climb In Triangle, State

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Unemployment numbers for the month of February increased an average of a percentage point in most areas of the Triangle.

Wake County increased from 7.4 percent in January to 8.3 percent for February, according to the latest statewide unemployment numbers released on Wednesday.

Other counties in our area also increased:

Durham County rose from 7.3 to 8 percent.

Johnston County rose from 10.5 percent to 10.8 percent.

Orange County rose from 5.8 percent to 6.5 percent. (Orange County still has the lowest unemployment rate in the state.)

Franklin County increased from 10 percent to 11 percent.

Granville County rose from 9.4 to 10.5 percent.

Harnett County went from 10.7 to 11.8 percent.

Overall, 99 of the state's 100 counties saw increases in unemployment from January to February.
