HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. -

Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics in Holly Springs has brought hundreds of jobs to the area and there are more to come with the construction of their new facility. But the company is not stopping there.

Employees at Novartis like Paul Herzick said they are going all out for the Holly Springs community.

"We're here today for our Community Partnership Program which is a global initiative for Novartis," Herzick said.

Jenny Mizelle with the Town of Holly Springs said the jobs are important but there is more to the company.

"It's that's good from a business perspective but what's also important is that they're engaging in the community," Mizelle said.

The company asked the town what projects needed work. Then more than 70 employees planted trees and rolled out tarps, among other odd jobs.

"I knew if we got the materials together we would have the labor," Mizelle said.

They even worked with Holly Springs High School students like Kayla Gahagen building a trail to improve their campus as part of a science project.

"I think it's a great way for them to interact with the school and get involved with the community," Gahagen said.

This is the third year the group has participated in this event and employee Kim Gerraty said it's just the beginning.

"It's a great partnership and I hope to continue building the relationship," Gerraty said.

Some employees even traveled to other parts of the triangle to take part in projects with Habitat for Humanity and the North Carolina Food Bank.

Currently, there are 100 permanent jobs and more than 600 employees involved with the building of the new plant in the Holly Springs Business Park.

When the facility is completed, there will be 300 more job opportunities.
