The subject of blacks who fought on the side of Confederates in the Civil War will be discussed in conjunction with the National Geneaological Society's annual conference in Raleigh.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that the African-American Geneaology Forum will be held Tuesday morning at the North Carolina Museum of History. Earl Ijames (eyemz) is a curator at the museum and he'll discuss "colored Confederates," which he says is the historically correct term for blacks who fought for the South.
In some cases, slaves were sent instead of their masters or were forced or volunteered to serve alongside them. In other cases, freed blacks volunteered.
The national conference runs Wednesday through Saturday at the Raleigh Convention Center.
