Unique Approach to Boost Summer Blood Supply Partners

Local Rotary Clubs with Area Youth and Business

The Rotary motto, "service above self", has inspired thousands of service projects-local, national and international. The organization's commitment to community service and youth are the inspiration behind an upcoming local project. The Cary MacGregor and Holly Springs Rotary clubs, Rick Hendrick's Cary Auto Mall and Cary MacGregor Country Club are working with area youth to sponsor a Red Cross blood drive on Monday, June 22nd.

The young adults working with Rotary on the project are looking for hands-on experiences that have a direct impact on their community. These students include a recent graduate of the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw (currently attending technical college and mentored by a Rotary member) and teenagers involved in the Rotary's Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) training program.

The summer season is a time when blood banks have a critically low supply and need to identify new donors and create awareness. These teenagers have access to a new group of potential donors and the enthusiasm to raise awareness of this important method of giving back to the community

"We're pleased to create this community partnership to address a need in our own community," said Jim Smith, president of Cary MacGregor Rotary and Sales Manager with the Hendrick organization. By involving young people, we show them that their service is a critical component in solving problems

and that ‘service above self' is a philosophy that builds pride and pleasure in giving to others. It's a win-win-win situation for these future leaders, Rotary, the Auto Mall and our community. We look forward to turning this into an annual event."
