Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina says a company lobbyist has been cleared of wrongdoing after allegations he tried to bribe a lawmaker in exchange for killing a bill.
The health insurance company's spokesman said Monday the Wake County District Attorney's Office is no longer looking at the matter after the State Bureau of Investigation concluded its probe of Ken Wright.
The General Assembly's ethics committee received the allegation in May but named neither the lobbyist nor the lawmaker. The company identified Wright on Monday for the first time.
Willoughby's top assistant and the Attorney General's Office didn't return calls seeking comment.
Blue Cross spokesman Lew Borman said Wright would return to lobbying the General Assembly on Monday night.
