The fall schedule is out for Wake Tech sports, and there's something new in the mix - basketball! The Eagles' basketball programs (men's and women's) get started this fall, joining men's soccer and women's volleyball.
WTCC began its athletics program last fall as a Region X, Division 1 and II member of the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA).
First to start is the women's volleyball team, which begins its second season Thursday, August 27th, against Central Carolina Community College in Sanford. Their first home game will take place on Friday, September 11th, against Blue Ridge Community College. Home games are played at the North Raleigh Christian Academy. The team is coached by George Tsai, a Wake Tech instructor and former volleyball coach at Green Hope High School.
The men's soccer team kicks off its second season at home on Sunday, August 30th. The team plays USC Sumter at 3:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, where the soccer team plays all home games. Head coach Godfrey Miller was an assistant coach for men's soccer at NC State University before coming to Wake Tech last year.
The men's basketball team begins play November 2nd at Cape Fear Community College and follows that game up with its first home game, November 4th, against Brunswick Community College. Home games for the men's and women's basketball teams will be played at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. Head coach Van Williams was assistant men's basketball coach at Shaw University before coming to Wake Tech.
The women's basketball team starts its season at home at 5 p.m. on November 4th, with a match-up against Guilford Tech Community College.
A.D. Barry Street serves as head coach for the women's team. He previously coached women's basketball at Johnson C. Smith University, N.C. Central University and UNC-Greensboro.
The fall season also marks the start of Wake Tech's cheerleading squad. Coach Wendi Huskins, an adjunct instructor in Wake Tech's Early Childhood Education program, is an experienced cheerleader with big plans for the Wake Tech squad.
Additional information and complete schedules are available at http://athletics.waketech.edu. The WTCC athletics program is funded solely by student fees and private donations.
