Raleigh, N.C. – July 9, 2009 –Sandra Moonert, member and former board member of the Triangle Chapter of EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association), made a historical hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the new North Carolina State Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Saturday, June 27. The course opens to public in mid July and charter partners of the course were invited to play a “preview” on June 27.
Moonert was playing with charter partner Roxanne Hicklin and scored the hole-in-one on the 17th hole, a 115-yard par 3, using a 9 iron. This was her first hole-in-one since beginning to play the game in the mid 1980’s. When a business transfer brought her to Raleigh from Cincinnati in 1998, she joined EWGA to meet golfing friends, learn about and play the courses in the area and participate in competitions. In recent years she’s held EWGA leadership positions, been a supporter of NC State golf programs, won an EWGA Sectional and Chapter Championship in 2001 and 2004, and spearheaded establishment of local LPGA-USGA Girls Golf programs. Last month she was honored by the national EWGA organization for her impact and contributions to the community in the inaugural ‘Women Who Lead’ Awards program.
Moonert is a charter partner of the new NC State Lonnie Poole Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer Signature Course, an 18-hole, 7210-yard, par 71 public course with practice range on NC State’s Centennial Campus. The golf course and the research and training facility will serve as the home for the men’s and women’s golf teams at NC State, the focal point for critical research, teaching and extension programs within the Colleges of Natural Resources, and Agriculture and Life Sciences, and will serve as the central laboratory for NC State’s prestigious Turfgrass Management and Professional Golf Management Programs (PGM).
