Gov. Bev Perdue took the school bus this morning to Conn Elementary.
She was a special guest on the school's televised morning announcement, telling students that she lives right in their neighborhood.
Perdue stopped in several classrooms and asked students if they had read any book over the summer.
She talked to teachers and parents about their excitement to start the school year, but also about their concerns about funding for education.
State budget cuts mean larger class sizes for some, fewer teachers' assistants, and fewer electives.
