The people who made it legal for children to consent to have sex at age 16 yet voted against them having sex education, are the same people who made it legal for a 'potential pervert' (teacher) in school to hit students (corporal punishment) ...

It is up to the voters in NC to demand from its representatives justice for the victems of crime, not the perpetrators. Plea bargaining has returned thousands of repeat criminals to our neighborhoods yet our courts and the Atty General wud have us believe they are doing their jobs. Voters need to demand from their reps what is necessary to protect our children. Get politics out of the courts and rediscover justice. If existing laws are no longer effective then rewrite them so that they are effective.

E. Gene Cayton -- tell NC AG Roy T Cooper to stop permitting themt plead down and get probation only, thus projecting them into society with the children without spending a day in jail for molesting one or more. -- There is an Asst Principal who was convicted of sex with a student (crime against nature) and lost his teaching license but guess where he WORKS now?-> A community health agency !!! We need a an Atty General who is on the job, not out defending Duke and running for office. ALSO any place primarily used for children should have ADULT supervision to ensure safeguarding the children.

The primary responsibility of a civilized people is to ensure the safety and protection against harm to their children. Opening any door that gives opportunity for sex offenders to frequent a place where children congregate is a dangerous door to open. Hopefully, the people of NC will contact their representatives and demand unchallenged action to prevent any known sex offender from being allowed access to our children. I hope I never have to say, "I told you so", but by then it will be a bit too late for the child.

Here it is: From the CSOM (Center for Sex Offender Management) U S Dept. of Justice: Approximately 60% of boys and 80% of girls who are sexually victimized are abused by someone known to the child or the child's family. Relatives, friends, baby-sitters, persons in positions of authority over the child, or persons who supervise children are more likely than strangers to commit a sexual assault. Only a fraction of those who commit sexual assault are apprehended and convicted for their crimes. Most convicted sex offenders eventually are released to the community under probation or parole supervision. (This I agree with that it is someone known by the child or the child's family; but not particularly a family member.)

nunyabiz are your links pertaining to a specific state or area? I agree that child physical abuse and child abuse fatalities are committed mostly by parents or caregivers. But Child Sex Abuse is not. I have been following individual cases in North Carolina since 2002 and most of the arrests made are nonfamily perverts. A huge majority of them are teachers, coaches, and school employees. I keep a file of them. Two weeks ago I watched a TV report on how child sex trafficking and child pornography is flourishing and spreading in the USA. I will however do some research on what you claim and get back to you.
By Nunyabiz on 11/03 07:59 AM
Its a well known fact that sexual abuse of children is almost always by a friend or relative regardless where you are. It is always above 80%. I have several links that proves this however this board will not let me post them, says they are "spam" which they are not.

Nunyabiz that website link is limited to one town Lawrence, Kansas news article. Child Abuse (Sexual, Physical, Emotional) is generally perpetrated by someone the child knows - but sexual abuse cases I've researched in North Carolina do not indicate that sexual abuse is mostly by a family member. I was beyond stunned at the vast number of teachers, coaches, school employees arrested for child sex offenses. -- Ironically, in North Carolina, convicted child sex offenders (who molest non family children) do not lose custody of their own children and they remain in the household. NC is soft on child sex offenders, most of them plead down and get probation only... Child sexual predators who kidnap, torture and kill do have one thing on common, (as seen on TV) - most of them are white males non relatives.
By Nunyabiz on 11/02 05:47 PM
Umm no, Nunyabiz KNOWS that most sex offenders (85-95%) are friends and relatives, someone the child knows...Those are just the facts. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/apr/06/child-sex-predators-not-usually-strangers/ ""In fact, national statistics show that 85 percent to 95 percent of the time, the offender is someone the child knows.""
By myrak on 11/02 02:45 PM
nunyabiz thinks " most are In THE HOME, like a parent or family member." I wonder where you got that idea from. I have no clue where mot of them are but I do know that there are a huge number of teachers, coaches, school employees charged with child - student sex offenses. Yet every time one is arrested, all people do is say they are shocked. People who sexually molest kids and students look just like people in the neghborhood. Unfortunately, after each arrest, the news just dies. People forget. And so it is ..... no one really cares enough to do something to protect children; not even those paid to safeguard them.

Believing you are going to keep your child safe from sex offenders simply because of keeping them away from basically everywhere a sex offender could possibly be is ridiculous.............. The only way to keep the child safe is to EDUCATE the child in how to defend itself, screaming and yelling, stomp on toes, nuts etc..........Sex offenders are EVERYWHERE in fact I think most are In THE HOME, like a parent or family member.

leon hasn't kept up with the rising number of church officials accused of molesting children... There is no sure Safe Haven anywhere for small children. Way too many child predators are teachers and coaches in our schools, the ONE PLACE the kids should be safe. All children should be taught how to tell and how to say no. It's a darn shame that child sex offenses are surging in numbers in USA, e.g. the recent little girl found in a LANDFILL. This country is doing nothing to protect the children and what they are doing is NOT working.

Most churches are made up of volunteers who come and go at will. Most church campuses are spralling afairs with many places where a sex offender could isolate a child, if only for a short time. Is it fair to our children to place them in such a dangerous situation by giving registered sex offenders free reign? A church campus is one of the few remaining places in our society where children can move about freely and safely among members and family. Is it fair to them to destroy this safe haven?

The law says no sex offender within 300 feet of place "PRIMARILY" used for children. In addition of denial to attend church, sex offenders cannot go to a library, movies, or any place that has a 'section' for children. BUT Sex Offenders can keep custody of their own children, no matter how young and they can go to schools for parent-teacher meetings, etc. Go figure!!
By myrak on 10/29 09:48 PM
I wrote to AG Roy T. Cooper and asked for a copy of the rules sex offenders have to follow. I have never seen anything so difficult to understand. The law says not to be within 300 feet of place PRIMARILY used for children. Church services are not primarily for children. Until Roy T. Cooper can decides to make some understandable rules. Roy Cooper needs to do what he always claims to do - protect the children and give offenders a CLEAR UNDERSTANDABLE List of do's and don'ts ....
By Nunyabiz on 10/29 04:20 PM
Why not? Many of the priest themselves are in fact sex offenders.

Membership in a church should be by the religious convictions of the individual church and/or denomination. Participation in church activities, especially those that include children/youth, should only be allowed after appropriate church review and approval. This is not just for checking to see if the person has anything questionable in their background, but to see that the individual and his/her beliefs are in line with church/denominational guidelines.
By give me a break on 10/29 01:33 PM
Why should anyone be denied the right to go to church? Who could use redemption more that a sex offender. I am for full declosure though. No wolf in sheeps clothing
By Thunder on 10/29 01:28 PM
The churches should do background checks on all indivisuals and protect the children from preditors.
