A few dozen bicyclists rode to the Raleigh City Council meeting Tuesday to push for bicycle lanes on the newly-renovated Hillsborough Street.
The group said Hillsborough Street, which is undergoing a major renovation to make it more pedestrian-friendly, should also include bicycle lanes.
"Hillsborough Street is not a very safe place to ride a bike on right now," said Victor Lytvinenko, who was among the bicycle group at the meeting. "We're not going to get more people riding bikes unless it's a safer environment for them."
City Council members voted to send the issue to be studied in committee.
"That seems to be a big wave of the future and it's time we get moving," said Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker.
