RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Carolina Hurricanes announced that the team has recalled goaltender Justin Peters from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.

Peters' recall comes after goaltender Michael Leighton suffered a lower-body injury and had to leave the Hurricanes' game on Tuesday at Montreal. To make room on the roster for Peters, the team has assigned Tim Conboy to Albany.

Peters, 23, has posted a 6-5-2 record, a 2.43 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in 13 games with Albany this season. The Blythe, Ont., native is in his fourth professional season and has yet to make his NHL playing debut, though he did serve as the Hurricanes' backup goaltender for four games in December 2008.

Peters (6'1", 205 lbs.) has posted a 42-56-6 record and a 2.92 goals-against average in 114 career AHL regular-season games with Albany since turning professional in 2006-07. Carolina drafted Peters in the second round, 38th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Carolina Hurricanes return to the RBC Center on Thursday, Nov. 19, to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network) in the first game of a two-game home stand.
