A 28-year-old inmate at central prison died in his cell Thursday night, according to the state Department of Correction.
Inmate Kayin Whitfield was found unresponsive and not breathing during a regular 9:30 p.m. check. The DOC reported that medical staff performed CPR and took Whitfield to the Central Prison emergency room. He was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m.
Whitfield's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office. Preliminary findings indicate that the death was of natural causes. An investigation and review is underway.
Whitfield had been serving a five-month sentence on for driving with a license revoked, assault on an officer and damage to property.

To: E.Williams I am happy for you and your family and glad to know that you believe in God. Never been to jail and don't do jail visits. I don't like it when someone choose jail because the taxpayers have to foot the bill. I do believe if you do the crime. You serve the time. I am not perfect.....

If there was no crime, there would be no need for prisons. Criminals hope they won't get caught, and once caught, they hope they won't get prison time. However, for some thugs, going to prison is like going to Harvard or Yale. In their culture, they are revered by their "homies" for "doing time". Sad isn't it! And their decisions have a ripple effect, not only on their victim(s) and the victim's family and friends, but also on their own family. Each prison has a grandmother who probably wished wonderful things for the child when it was born, and her heart was probably saddened by the path he/she took as an adult. Happy holidays to you all.

TO: E. Sutton Yes, I do have children. I have 3 now and I had 4. However, I do not have any rapist/murderers and I don't have any who prefers to call jail a home. I have 2 daughters and a son. I thank God for my children and the lives they have chosen to live out here with us. If somebody chooses jail it is fine with us. We choose to live without it. Somehow we kinda like it on the outside of jail! Maybe you can relate to jail but I can not and will not. So Now, E. Sutton what you gotta say about that????????

Ms. Willams, Do you have any children? If that was your child I bet you would be a little more selective with your so called "CHOICES" of words.

It's possible that this 28 year old had an underlying medical condition that nobody knew about which led to his demise. If his family feels the autopsy is in error, I guess they can call Dr. Baden or some other "expert" to perform a second autopsy. Until then, it is what it is. Had he chosen to obey the laws, he wouldn't have been in prison to begin with. He still may have died from natural causes, but he would have done so at home and not in prison.

hey Yall: WAKE THE ***** UP! EVERYBODY IN PRISON/JAIL IS ALWAYS SO FRICKING INNOCENT! WHY IS THAT? THIS IS THE REAL WORLD PEOPLE! IF IT WALKS, TALKS AND ESPECIALLY QUACKS, IT IS A DUCK! THE BEST WAY NOT TO GET KILLED IN JAIL/PRISON IS NOT TO BE IN JAIL/PRISON!!!! IF YOU ARE IN ONE OF THOSE PLACES, ASK YOURSELF WHY? DID SOMEONE JUST DECIDE THAT TODAY IS YOUR DAY TO BE LOCKED UP? OR DID YOU DECIDE TO CONTINUE YOUR CRIMINAL WAYS AND GET CAUGHT AT? WAKE UP DUMMIES! I'VE NEVER BEEN TO JAIL IN MY LIFE AND THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT! I SIMPLY CHOOSE NOT TO GO! IT HASN'T BEEN HARD FOR ME NOT TO GO. LIFE IS ABOUT "CHOICES". IF YOU CHOOSE JAIL--THEN DEAL WITH WHATEVER COMES WITH BEING IN JAIL!!!!!!!!

Hey Shaniya: You are right on target! When I saw that an inmate had died at the Central Jail or facility, I immediately said "I hope it's Mario McNeill". I really don't want McNeill to die so quickly though. I want him to sit on death row for a minute and just wonder ecactly how long it's gonna take for the grim reaper to come knocking on his cell door! I hope McNeill dies in the gas chamber because a lethal injection is absolutely too good for him. I would love to see him struggling to catch his breath and can not! However, he does have a right to a lethal injection and that's about all I would ever consider giving him or Shaniya's mother and grandmother!

I am suspicious of this "natural causes" death of a young 28 year old man. Suicide would make more sense, or murder.

Hey! is'nt Mario Mcneill going there?yippie!

He is one of my best friends and that "natural causes" stuff is some bullshit down south, half-assed attempt at a cover up, I know what you did! I wonder how they say natural causes when I personally know his mother is waiting on a call from the coroner to find out cause of death. It would be of interest to find out who the "officer" was in the "assault against an officer" charge, which was one of the charges he was currently serving time for.

Natural causes for a 28 year old? Really?
