CARY, N.C. -

Like so many families, each year after the Thanksgiving the Taylor's pile into their car and search for that perfect Christmas tree.

"We've been coming to Pop and Sons for 15 years," Linda Taylor said. "We have three children and so we always come and get the tree together and there is always arguing and everybody picking out their own tree but we usually come together as a family and choose one."

This year's crop of trees is one of best the state has ever had, according to Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.

North Carolina growers say the cool weather mixed with rainfall lead to the great crop.

For more than a decade, the Taylor's have found their tree in Cary at Pop and Sons trees off Cary Parkway.

"It's a very good crop," Tree Seller Bobby Jones said. "We have no problems with the trees. We got plenty of moisture the trees grew well and their very good."

Last year, tree sales in North Carolina were second in the nation netting $100 million.

Despite the rough economy some tree sellers said this year shouldn't be any different.

This year's Christmas Tree harvest should top 5 million trees.

"For everybody who's going to buy a live tree, it's basically a tradition," Jones said. "They'll continue to do so and we haven't seen our numbers drop. I know it's a hardship, but people are still buying the trees."

Over at Tommy Burlesons and Sons Christmas Trees, the attitude was the same.

"I was real surprised yesterday after Thanksgiving," Seller Cain Wise said. "(We) had real good business. It's not affected us as much as I think people assumed it would."

Thanks to families like the Taylors, seller just might have a great Christmas.

"No matter how bad the economy gets, for us a live tree is a necessity," Linda said.
