A local organization working to control the pet population made a stop in Apex Tuesday.
Spay-Neuter Assistance Program of North Carolina or SNAP-NC set up mobile units at the Ace Hardware on Highway 55 to provide discounted surgeries to pets in the area. People who could provide documentation of government assistance received an even larger discount.
The group has spayed and neutered more than 40,000 pets since they began in 2000 and one of the certified veterinarians Laureen Bartfield said something must be done to decrease animal reproduction.
"You simply can't kill or adopt your way out of that problem. You must cut off the flow at the top. You must spay and neuter. Unfortunately, a number of North Carolinians cannot get access to a tradition veterinarian hospital because of the increased costs," Bartfield said.
SNAP-NC is based out of New Hill but they travel all over the area providing much need care to pets. If you would like to know more information click on www.snap-nc.org.
