The Fourth Annual Devils Ridge Charity Golf Classic was held on Sept. 24th. This event, hosted by the Devils Ridge Men's Golf Association, was held for the benefit of the Prostate Cancer Coalition of N.C. (PCCNC) to aid in their fight against prostate cancer.
A full field of 128 golfers had a great tournament on a beautiful sunny day, including breakfast, golf, lunch, golf prizes and a raffle.
A feature of the tournament was signs on all 18 greens with Prostate Cancer Facts to promote awareness of the seriousness of this disease. Key facts included: 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer; 75% of P.C. deaths are preventable with early screening, detection and appropriate treatment; men should have a P.C. screening at least 1/yr. if: (a) over 50; (b) over 40 with a family history of P.C., or (c) African American; all men should have a baseline PSA blood test at age 35 and regrettably, currently only 40% of men take the recommended screening tests.
