In large number, Morrisville residents turned out and voiced opposition to the proposed Land Use & Transportation Plan (LUTP). During the Town Council's recent public hearing, citizens let their objections be known. "No more large developments" and "don't route heavy traffic through residential neighborhoods" were common demands. The LUTP will be the Town's blueprint for the area's growth during the next 25 years.
The Town conducted public workshops, focus groups and formed an advisory committee to determine the interests and views of Morrisville citizens. However, the Plan being proposed is NOT what citizens asked for. There are many examples of clear citizen preferences replaced by Town management proposals.
At all the public and advisory committee meetings, not one citizen asked for ADDITIONAL Regional Activity Centers (RAC) surrounding the yet to be constructed Park West Village (NC 54 & Cary Pkwy). A "RAC" is a large, highly concentrated retail, commercial and residential development (like Park West). To the contrary, low density residential homes were sought. This proposal to designate ADDITIONAL RACs around Park West comes solely from the Town staff.
The Public and Committee's citizen members sought the enhancement of Morrisville as a low-density residential community, NOT higher concentration commercial and over 900 acres of "mixed use" development.
Citizen emails and opinions at the workshops were overwhelmingly opposed to the proposed Crabtree Crossing Parkway extension. The consensus of the Advisory Committee was NOT to include the extension in the Plan.
These are only a few of the major examples. The LUTP should be what the Town's constituents want! Additional Public comments may be made on Tuesday, January 27. The Council will discuss the Plan on January 13. A decision may be made at a meeting in February.
