Fuquay-Varina Rotary Club President Lewyn Hayes welcomed Roland Bibeau and Kati Everett of Novant Health at their club meeting on Thursday (07/31/08). Len Bradley, representing Holly Springs also attended to emphasize that this undertaking was being initiated by the Town of Holly Springs.
Fuquay-Varina’s neighbor Holly Springs is working hard to pull more needed services close to home. They have targeted one such critical element, a local hospital. Novant Health is working with the town to get state approval to provide a community hospital local to Holly Springs just over the Fuquay-Varina border off Hwy 55. This location will be extremely accessible to both Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina residents. Novant believes that residents shouldn't have to leave their community for emergency or basic surgical care. Outpatient procedures and surgeries need not require a more commute time than necessary. Novant has a history of making medical care easy to access in smaller communities. The process to bring a new hospital to a community takes a minimum of two years and sometimes several more. With the explosive growth and its resultant traffic congestion a facility with complete basic hospital care would be good now and a necessity soon.
It was emphasized that healthcare in Wake County is great and for major intricate procedures the large hospitals are the place to be, however for many medical procedures and basic hospital care, close may be better and more accessible. The State regulates the number of beds in an area, thus making community support a necessity. All online submissions must be received by August 11, 2008 to be considered by the State.
