An agreement has been reached in the custody case over Brad and Nancy Cooper's two daughters. The parents of Nancy Cooper, Gary and Donna Rentz, and identical twin sister, Krista Lister, will continue to have custody of the girls until October 13.
A local judge has granted a temporary custody order that will allow the children of a murdered Cary woman to stay with their grandparents, instead of their father.
The two girls, Katie, 2, and Bella, 4, are staying with Garry and Donna Rentz, the parents of Nancy Cooper of Cary. The children went to live with their grandparents earlier this month after Cooper was found dead July 14.
Attorneys for the children’s father, Brad Cooper, and attorneys for the grandparents reached the agreement today in Wake County Court. The children will be allowed to see their father, Brad Cooper, for two weekends until the next custody hearing October 13.
Though the grandparents live in Canada, the supervised visits will be in Raleigh.
After the agreement was read, Rentz’s attorney, Alice Stubbs, said, “This result is what’s best for the children.”
In the agreement made during Friday afternoon's court hearing, Brad Cooper will get two supervised visits within the next 75 days. Each visit will be for two hours a day for two days in a row. Brad will be responsible for flying the girls to Raleigh. He will have to pay for both of their tickets as well as a grandparent. Brad will be allowed to talk with them four times a week for 15 minutes minimum. He can talk with them on camera or webcam.
An attorney for the Rentz family said they are happy with the agreement made Friday.
Attorneys for Brad Cooper filed a last minute motion just before the scheduled 2 p.m. hearing was to begin. His lawyers filed a Motion to Vacate and Set Aside Ex Parte Temporary Custody Order.
