Thousands of North Carolinians took advantage of the Cash For Clunkers rebate program this summer, but many automobile dealers are still wondering where their money is.

According to the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association, approximately 19,000 clunkers were traded-in at the state's 625 dealerships. So far, the federal government has only reimbursed dealers for about 6.6 percent of those transactions.

It leaves some dealerships waiting on well over a million dollars.

"The bottom line is, car dealers made an agreement and they expect to be paid. And they haven't been paid," said Robert Glaser, president of the NCADA. "It's an incredible amount of stress, not knowing if they're going to be able to make their pay roll."

The Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina has joined with BBBs from all around the country in writing a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and President Barack Obama, urging them to expedite the reimbursements.
