The "Organizing for America" bus is making a final stop in Raleigh today before heading back to Washington, D.C.
The bus tour is part of President Barack Obama's 50-state push for health care reform before Congress heads back to Washington. Members of the community and grassroots groups will join speakers like Congressman David Price and Organizing for America Deputy Director Jeremy Bird.
Congressman David Price said supporters of the president's plan need to hang in there and persist. He said one key concept is bringing everyone into the system, or making it affordable, because "that's the way insurance works."
"For goodness sakes health care expenses are eating us alive and we still have 45 million uninsured!" Price said.
"I think Americans should have a choice," said supporter Linsey Hazen. "I think if they want private health insurance, they should have it. If they want a public option, they should have it."
Those against the president's plan will also be at the event. NBC 17 spoke with Randy Dye who is a member of Triangle Conservatives Unite. He said his group, other conservatives and independents will be there to welcome the bus into town.
"I'm definitely for reform," said Dye. "I'm just very nervous about the government health reform."
The "Let's Get It Done: Raleigh National Bus Tour Stop" begins at 5:45 p.m. at the Progress Energy Performing Arts Center Plaza in downtown Raleigh. Doors open at 5 o'clock and the event is scheduled to run until 7:00 p.m.
Be sure to watch NBC 17 News at 6 and 7 for a live look at the event.

When there is no more money just how are the hospitals, doctors, and insurance companies going to get paid again. They will not survive and will have to close their doors! Or give everyone FREE EVERYTHING!

A decent portion of those would protest anything that a government does..People need to be aware of the reality..Not everyone wants the kind of health insurance reform that's proposed, but most do..An unscientific sample across polls shows me that more people favor Health Insurance Reform now than voted for President Obama..Vaginal Herpes

The handful, perhaps 10, of the speakers came on the bus, but most of those were local folks. Nearly all of the > 1000 folks there wandered up on their own. I was there, that's what happened. There were a good sized handful of counter demonstrators, perhaps 20. A decent portion of those would protest anything that a government does. People need to be aware of the reality. Not everyone wants the kind of health insurance reform that's proposed, but most do. An unscientific sample across polls shows me that more people favor Health Insurance Reform now than voted for President Obama. If you have consutructive critisim I'm happy to listen, otherwise work on some ideas, rather than just ranting about evils, or personal attacks against anyone.

ROTFL exactly 14 people came off of one bus which was several minutes late, there were the speakers and no one else. NOBODY that was there came off any bus. and yes saying the "majority" of the people there were in support was a massive understatement. there were between 1300-1600 supporters there and I would say maybe 25-30 wingnuts. Why are these lunatics given ANY airtime is what I would like to know, let alone MORE airtime.

Nunyabiz, You're right, NBC's fancy editing didn't show me at the rally either. I had my shirt off and kept jumping up and down behind the camera saying "hi mom". You're a complete idiot. If you watched the 6 o'clock news you'd see the reporter mention that the majority of the people who were there were in support of the president's plan. After that it seems like pretty objective reporting with comments from both sides. Now go get yourself a tv and quit waisting my time. You disgust me. Sincerely, Frank

Thanks you for showing it like it was! Looks like all the people in support were on the buses

and here ya go again, at least 1500 people at the rally and you go out of your way to show as few as humanly possible to make it appear as though only a couple hundred showed up. Then you spend just as much time if not more interviewing 3 of maybe 25-30 wingnuts that showed up to embarrass themselves. NBC17 is obviously reich wing bias and you are disgusting. I am done watching NBC17.

Lets see of NBC17 can get the numbers right his time. Last one had exactly 46 of the wingnuts there while the Health Care advocates had over 1500+. You had a 1min36second story that tried to make believe that both sides were equal when in fact the wingnuts represent a very tiny minority. How about covering it properly this time?
