A new Garner park will set an example for the community by "going green."
Officials broke ground Tuesday on what will become White Deer Park.
It will include a green nature center, walking trails, picnic shelters and play areas.
The park will be located on 96 acres of land on Aversboro Road, across from Lake Benson Park.
And the park isn't the only thing "going green."
"We're going to have recycling across the board on the job site, so not just from the construction debris, but from the workers when they come on the site, we'll have recycling containers for their soda cans, for their water bottles and we'll separate that from their regular trash," said Steve Raper, General Contractor with Geo. Raper & Sun, Inc.
When the park opens next summer it will include a LEED-certified building to house the nature center.
