New signs are going up Thursday at the WRAL Soccer Center in Wake Forest to make it clear that smoking is not allowed.
CASL administrators are hopeful the signs, provided by WakeMed Health and Hospitals, will reinforce an established no-smoking policy that some people are ignoring.
Director of Soccer Operations Michael Milazzo says the facility should be a safe and healthy environment for kids.
"When I walk to the field of a group of U6 kids and people are smoking," he said. "That is an issue."
Milazzo said that smoking is not allowed at any of CASL's soccer fields, but the signs will only be at the Soccer Center because it is the only field CASL owns. With so many fields all over the county, he says the smoke-free policy is difficult to enforce. Still, he hopes people will respect the rules and the players.
"Smoking is the antithesis of the message we're trying to put forward with our kids," he said.
