Between May 19 and June 3, four Raleigh victims have reported encountering a fraud suspect at their residences.
The suspect came to the victims’ doors, claimed to be a neighbor, and said he locked his keys in his car. Typically, the suspect asked to use victims’ telephones to call a locksmith and attempted to “borrow” money from victims to pay for the locksmith. No money obtained by the suspect has been returned. In some instances, the suspect asked victims to give him a ride, supposedly to meet the locksmith.
The suspect is described as a black male in his twenties or early thirties. He stands 5 feet 7-9 inches tall, is of slender build, and is said to have been well dressed.
Anyone who has not yet reported a similar incident to police is asked to do so by calling 911. Anyone with information that might assist the investigation of the existing cases is urged to call the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at (919) 996-3555 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 226-CRIME. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for tips that help clear cases.
The Raleigh Police Department strongly cautions against allowing strangers into one’s home under any circumstances and asks residents to always immediately report any suspicious people or any form of suspicious activity.
