Grants for farmland preservation projects are available to county governments and nonprofit groups beginning Monday from the state's Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund.
North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said the deadline for applications is Dec. 5.
The Legislature appropriated $4 million for the 2009-09 fiscal year to help counties and qualifying groups preserve open farmland. Grants can be used for agricultural conservation easements and programs that promote sustainable growing.
Informational meetings have been scheduled between Oct. 27 and Nov. 20.
