North Carolina's congressional delegation received a letter from Governor-elect Bev Perdue urging support of another federal economic stimulus package. Perdue asked them to support federal spending helping the unemployed, homeowners at risk of foreclosure, and the state's infrastructure.
The Coalition for Human Needs also is asking Congress to quickly pass an economic stimulus package targeting low- and moderate-income people. "Economists tell us that providing aid to low- and moderate-income people is the most effective way to boost the economy," said Deborah Weinstein, executive director of the Coalition on Human Needs (CHN). "The need is urgent for both our economy and the growing number of Americans who are losing their jobs, their homes, and their ability to meet basic needs."
