DURHAM COUNTY, N.C.

For many of us, last week was filled to the brim with family, friends, turkey and pie! Thanksgiving day reminds us to think about all the things we have to be grateful for. Unfortunately, not everyone is as fortunate. There are wonderful programs in place to provide a happy holiday for those down on their luck. One of these programs is the DSS Thanksgiving Dinners Program.

The Department of Social Services Volunteer Program's Director, Tasha Melvin, organized the 13th annual Thanksgiving Dinners program this year. The program provides meals for families that are less fortunate than most. This year they were able to serve 585 families in Durham thanks to the generosity of members of our community.

The picture above depicts Tasha Melvin, the Director of the DSS Volunteer Programs and Jennings Brody of Parker and Otis in downtown Durham who generously donated 35 Thanksgiving meals to needy families this year. For information on how you can get involved with holiday giving, please see the Volunteer Center of Durham's website: www.thevolunteercenter.org
