“She’s stepping down… wow,” exclaimed student Kate Dickey.
That pretty much was the reaction among students following the announcement this afternoon that Yow won’t coach this season because of her health situation.
“I’m concerned about her health and think it’ll take a toll on the students well,” said student Nicole Smith.
That’s because Yow is more than just a legend in the Reynolds’s Coliseum; students look upon her as an inspiration.
“She’s a fighter. That’s what a lot of people respect about her. That’s what I respect about her,” explained student Jamar Rowland. “I have a grandmother who has breast cancer as well, and to see Yow still sticking through it for all these seasons shows she's a true fighter.”
In a statement released late this afternoon, Yow called her decision to step away from coaching one of the hardest decisions she had to make.
“We’re defiantly going to miss her, said student Megan Hurdle. “She’s just overall a great leader.”
