His name literally means "God."
When it comes to high school wrestling, Eloheim Palma rules his world with supreme majesty.
At six feet and 270 pounds, the Cary High School senior is ranked as the number one high school heavyweight wrestler in the nation.
"In anything I do I like to be the best at it," Palma said.
For hours each day, Palma trains in the gym at Cary High. Even though he is able to win against everyone he trains with, Palma says winning isn't his ultimate goal.
"You know, I may pin you here and there, but I make mistakes here and there," Palma said. "You know my ultimate goal is to be perfect in everything I do."
He is awfully close, posting more than 200 career wins and less than a dozen losses. If a wrestler happens to pin Palma, chances are it did not come easily. Wrestling partner Kevin Puente knows this all too well.
"It hurts everyday," Puente said of wrestling Palma. "All I've got in my whole career with him is I think two take-downs and I think it was by luck."
Palma comes from a line of wrestlers. His older brother wrestles in college and helps train him to become better. But his father, Jairo Palma, says he is most impressed by his son's character.
"He's a wonderful boy," Jairo said. "I cannot believe that I'm his father. I feel honored to be his father."
Palma plans to wrestle in college, but he is also a football player and would like to try that as well.
"No matter what I do - football, wrestling, tennis, swimming, whatever - I want to be the best at it," he said.
For now Palma's attention is focused on March, when he heads to nationals to try and officially become the best high school wrestler in the country.
If he wins, he will truly be Eloheim, a god in high school wrestling.
