Green initiatives will be the topic of discussion when the State Board of Community Colleges convenes for its monthly meeting this week in Raleigh.
The meeting begins on Thursday with an issues luncheon and is followed by committee meetings. The full board meeting will take place Friday at 9 a.m. in the State Board room located in the Caswell Building.
The new Code Green Initiative will be detailed at the issues luncheon.
The presentation will outline endeavors in providing curriculum based around training for "green collar" jobs, and incorporating sustainable practices and building methods into North Carolina's Community College campuses. The presentation begins at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, in the State Board room.
Friday's full State Board meeting will begin at 9 a.m. with Gov. Bev. Perdue Administering the Oath of Office to new board members, Lt. Governor Walter Dalton and State Treasurer Janet Cowell.
Items going before the board for approval include several Continuing Education courses focusing on Energy Occupations including sustainable development, green consumerism, and alternative fuels technology.
The meeting will also feature Small Business Center Network Awards for Excellence in which three small business centers from community colleges across the state will be recognized for excellence in service. One of the three will be named the state-wide winner.
Also on the agenda is a review of several Non Budgetary Legislative items including potential consolidation of statutes and rules governing high school programs, and possibly increasing the bond amount for Proprietary Schools.
