ROLESVILLE, N.C. -

The town of Rolesville wants to expand its territorial lines.

Town leaders have asked the Wake County planning board to approve their request to expand one mile from its current extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

Wake County planner, Larry Morgan says, the expansion would allow town leaders to have a say in future development in the area.

But there is some opposition. Morgan says 39 residents currently living in the outskirts of Rolesville on Ivy Creek Trail, Burlington Mills Road, Centaur Road, and the east side of Forestville Road submitted a petition saying they'd rather be included in Wake Forest's ETJ, if any.

The area where these 39 petitioners live is currently under Wake County's jurisdiction.

Rolesville is currently 3,590 acres wide with a population of about 2,000. The extra mile will incorporated about 2,100 acres.

A public hearing will be held in Raleigh, on the seventh floor, room #700 of the Wake County Courthouse on March 23.

The Planning Board is expected to make a decision at that time.
