After more than three months of discussions and revisions, Morrisville leaders have set a plan for the town's future development.
At Tuesday night's council meeting, the town council voted unanimously to approve the Land Use & Transportation Plan.
The goal is to set guidelines now for roads, land acquisition and zoning for the next 25 years.
One of the biggest priorities with the plan will be improving NC 54, one of the town's most important thoroughfares.
"I am very pleased, especially when you consider where the first draft of this plan started out -- NC 54 was clearly an afterthought," said Ty Elliott, a Morrisville resident who's been vocal about the plan. "And now it's the cornerstone of the future of our transportation plan, as well as it should be."
Town leaders and community activists both said they did a good job of working together to form a plan that everyone ended up being happy with.

You are right about expanding 54. Sounds like you think suburbanite is a bad thing. many disagree. Do tell how Morrisville will become the next Atlanta if not built at the highest possible density and land use intensity. Local (remaining) jobs are at RTP, state government, colleges and hospitals. near those locations are where where highest densities are needed. If you want to plan and live in high density - go for it. but allow those of us who prefer the 'burbs to keep our yards and quiet neighborhood streets.

Clearly Ty Elliott and others don't understand how planning works. Ty Elliott sounds like a typical suburbanite. All of these people want to live in their single family homes and have no traffic congestion and walk to wherever they want to go and have greenspace and have no one else move in. Unfortunately, you can't have it all. The more that you focus on relieving traffic congestion, the more you will have to expand 54 in the future. This plan should have placed much more emphasis on increasing density to keep Morrisville from becoming another Atlanta, as the poster above me commented.

Thanks to all the Morrisville citizens who spent their time preventing the adoption of the irresponsible "growth" plan that was originally proposed. We have got to control growth in Wake County or we will become the next Atlanta. Thank you very much for your time.
