After a windy & warm day Friday, showers and storms moved through Central North Carolina Friday night and early Saturday morning. Storms were expected to wrap up by sunrise Saturday morning.
These storms will be ahead of a cold front that is expected to move through Saturday leading to slightly cooler weather Saturday and Sunday. Most of Saturday should be dry with a high around 70. Easter Sunday is expected to be sunny with a high of 65.
While there was concern for isolated tornadoes in North Carolina most of the week, it was South Carolina that reported several tornadoes Friday afternoon and evening. One tornado in Jonesville, South Carolina damaged at least four mobile homes and turned one a full 180 degrees.
Golf ball sized hail was reported in many places in western North Carolina Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C., on Friday afternoon said hail the size of nickels, pennies or quarters was reported in Cabarrus and Cleveland counties and near downtown Charlotte in Mecklenburg County.
