On April 22-23, Ravenscroft will welcome the Special Olympic Games of Wake County to its campus, marking the 17th time the School has hosted the event since 1991.
More than 650 athletes, ranging in age from 6 to 21, will compete in track and field events, as well as participate in play activities that prepare the youngest athletes for future competition.
The entire Ravenscroft community is involved in the event. Lower School students decorate and pack lunch bags for the athletes, and attend the Opening Ceremonies to cheer them on. Middle School students decorate lunch bags, serve as banner judges and award cheerers, and Ravenscroft sophomores and juniors volunteer in different areas including as event assistants, buddies for the athletes, and as sports medicine trainers. Ravenscroft parents and faculty members also provide support as volunteers and help supply athlete lunches.
The School will also host a portion of the Special Olympics of North Carolina Summer Games on June 5-6. This is the fourth consecutive year that Ravenscroft has hosted the state-wide Games and its associated developmental field activities.
