The Capital Area Workforce Development Board (CAWDB) is currently accepting pre-applications for its seven-week Summer Youth Employment Program.
The program will run from June 15 until July 31, 2009, and employ about 600 low-income young people age 16 to 24 from Wake and Johnston counties. Participants will be paid $7.25 per hour. The application deadline is May 11, 2009.
Young people interested in jobs are encouraged to apply online at www.JumpInTheJobPool.com. Applications will also be available in Joblink Career Centers. The Summer Youth Employment Program is made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which provided the CAWDB with a $3.2 million grant. Part of the grant money was allocated to create jobs for youth in Wake and Johnston counties.
To qualify for this program youth must be between the ages of 16 and 24, and considered low income (may be receiving public assistance), plus one of the following barriers:
· Homeless
· Runaway Youth
· Offender
· Basic Skill Deficient
· School Dropout
· Youth Requiring Additional Assistance
· Pregnant/Parenting Youth
· Foster Care
CAWDB staff will contact participants to schedule eligibility determination interviews and to complete the Workforce Investment Act application process. All participants must be able to furnish documentation (birth certificate, social security card, income verification) at the time of the interview.
The Capital Area Workforce Development Board's mission is to create a highly skilled workforce system by providing employers with productive, skilled workers, and by offering citizens training and employment opportunities that promote job satisfaction and economic stability.
