Rex Healthcare is opening a new $24.8 million campus in Wake Forest to serve patients in northern Wake and surrounding counties.
The new facility includes operating rooms and outpatient services as well as northern Wake County's first cancer center. Doctors say the center offers the same level of care for cancer patients as on the Raleigh campus, but closer to home.
"Radiation therapy often is given over a four to even seven weeks time period, daily treatments five days a week," said Dr. Roger Anderson, UNC Rex Cancer Center.
"And for the convenience for patients in this community to come out here and get treatment, it will be much more available."
The main building is adjacent to the new Rex Wellness Center Wakefield. In addition to outpatient services, the facility will house physicians' offices.
The public is invited to see the new center an open house this Saturday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. The facility is located off New Falls of Neuse Road near the intersection with U.S. 1 North.
