DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham bicycling enthusiasts should mark their calendars now to attend two events that will celebrate National Bike-to-Work Week.

The events, hosted by the Durham Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission, begin on Wednesday, May 13, with a "Cyclists' Social" at Alivia's Durham Bistro, located at 900 E. Main Street (corner of Main and Gregson Streets). From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., cyclists can enjoy free food and giveaways.

On Friday, May 15 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., a "Bike-to-Work Breakfast" will be held at Five Points Plaza (corner of Main and Chapel Hill Streets in downtown Durham). Cyclists will enjoy free food and coffee from Ninth Street Bakery along with prizes. Mechanics from The Bicycle Chain's Durham location will also be on hand to provide free safety checks and basic adjustments to bicycles.
