RALEIGH, N.C. -

In support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® NC Triangle Affiliate, which moved its office to 133 Fayetteville Street earlier this year, numerous downtown businesses and agencies are participating in the weeklong inaugural "Go Pink for the Cure" celebration leading up to the June 13 Race for the Cure in Raleigh.

The 5K race will start and finish on Hillsborough Street in front of Meredith. Events begin at 6 a.m. and continue to 11 a.m.

From the Progress Center for the Performing Arts and the Shimmer Wall at the Raleigh Convention Center to the State Capitol and the Governor's Mansion, you'll notice pink lights, pink ribbons, pink menu items, pink lobbies, pink window displays, and even the Sir Walter Raleigh statue is wearing pink.

Go Pink for the Cure began Friday, June 5, with Komen NC Triangle hosting a stop on the downtown Raleigh First Friday Art Walk in The Fish Market/NC State College of Design gallery, located in the same building as the Komen office at 133 Fayetteville St.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the Komen NC Triangle Affiliate

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Komen NC Triangle Affiliate is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community. They join more than 100,000 breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, the Komen NC Triangle Affiliate has invested $10 million in local screening, education and treatment programs for women in need and innovative research toward finding the cure. This was for a great cause and I hope they raised enough money. I run a contest called Race to 1 Million on Twitter, but this is for social media purpose which started in about a month ago. We give away prizes like custom graphic design for your online account with twitter, but it would be great if these non-profits would join in on a venture to race money. We could connect NC residents by social networking online as well as provide business recognition for those donating to great causes. Check me out at http://twitter.com/4northcarolina as we pass 5000 followers in less than 45 days. If you know of any organizations to sponsor this marketing event, then contact me at 4northcarolina@gmail.com Take care! and oh, I loooove NBC! Bill, Wes, Sharon, DONALD, Penn, Melanie...lol...even Ginny from the blog! Good work NBC17!

THANK YOU for reporting on this. I live right off hillsborough street and whenever they've had races in the past, they never warn residents in the area.
