Learn about two hundred years of rich and fascinating Raleigh history on Saturday, August 8 at 2:00p.m. at the Raleigh City Museum. Hosted by museum staff, Raleigh 101 highlights the city's major moments and events that have shifted the course of local history. Topics include the city's earliest inhabitants, the construction of the Capitol, Raleigh during the Civil War, and the future of our great city. Whether you're a Raleigh native or new to the area, this introduction to the state capital has something for everyone. This event is open to the public. Admission is free. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Raleigh City Museum's latest exhibit, Portraits of Raleigh: Images of a City and Her People. This special exhibit highlights the faces and places that make Raleigh such a unique and vibrant city. Be on the lookout for upcoming adult and children's programs related to this new exhibit.
The Raleigh City Museum is located in the Historic Briggs Building at 220 Fayetteville Street. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. and Saturday, 1:00pm-4:00pm. Admission to the museum and programs is free. The permanent exhibits are, It Started With One Thousand Acres: Raleigh and its People, Raleigh's City Flag: 100 Years, and Let Us March On: Raleigh's Journey Towards Civil Rights. The museum's temporary exhibit, Portraits of Raleigh: Images of a City and Her People will run through the fall of 2009.
