HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. -

Despite the challenging economy, Holly Springs Economic Development Director Jenny Mizelle said the town has seen its share of commercial growth.

"We get the question a lot: ‘What services are you lacking in Holly Springs?'" Mizelle said.

Now, Mizelle and other town officials are turning to the community to answer that question, helping developers attract new businesses.

"We thought if we could tell the broker what services people want, it would help them close the deal and get the services for our residents," Mizelle said.

Residents like Sara Hartsoe can go onto the Town of Holly Springs Web site to access the 17-question survey.

"I think it's great for people to have a say in the community that they live in," Hartsoe said.

Hartsoe works at Blissful Manicure and Pedicure Lounge and lives in town. She said this is more than just about business.

"The more communication the town has with the residents the more positive feedback and positive consequences there will be," Hartsoe said.

Sarah Ferguson, the owner of Village Physical Therapy, agrees.

"I appreciate that the town takes the time and effort to do that. I think Holly Springs is an exception because they reach out to the community," Ferguson said.

Hartsoe and others said although businesses moving in the area with help the community, they also don't want to lose the local, small-town feel.

"We don't want it to be too overcrowded because people move to Holly Springs for a reason, and if that starts to change it might not be the same reason they want to live here," Hartsoe said.

The town plans to keep the survey on their Web site for at least a month before they begin to tally the results.
