Authorities say a 10-year-old boy who drowned off the coast of a North Carolina state park was from Sanford.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that Master Emanuel Carter went missing while swimming with his parents and 15-year-old brother at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area.
Lifeguards managed to rescue three of the swimmers but couldn't find the boy.
Authorities later found Master during a search, and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The state park is located at the southern end of Pleasure Island, near Wilmington, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River. Sanford is about 40 miles southwest of Raleigh.
